We SUPPORT development - there are many benefits
BUT
Six floors is TOO HIGH for our downtown
This is a round peg in a square hole
- Base zoning is 40 feet of height, but 6 floors is 69 feet (plus perhaps another 6 feet due to elevator)
- "Mass" of building to be ~4.5x larger than Laundry bldg.
- 6th floor only adds 3 housing units
- Unlike Waterfield, only a few units will count towards our Affordable Housing goals
- Inconsistent with the spirit of our zoning bylaws
- Sets bad precedent for rest of our downtown
- Contrary to spirit of: 2018 Town Master Plan, Special Permit criteria, and National Register of Historic Places listing
